  1. What is the system requirement for myDyn?
Your computer system should meet this minimum requirement to ensure the performance.
    OS: NT4.0 / 2000 / XP / Vista / Win7 / Windows 2008
    CPU: Pentium 4 and above
    RAM: 512MB and above
Hard Disk: Minimum 20MB free disk space
Internet: Any type of internet connection, broadband is recommended
    Software: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0

  2. Why myDyn is free but some others need a registration fee?
We understand only home users and people who just start a small online business will utilize dynamic DNS service, because he is able to host his own web site on his own home server in order to reduce the operational cost. We understand how hard it will be to start a business from zero. This is the reason we give this utility for free, absolutely no any hidden cost.

  3. What is dynamic DNS service? ( Quote from sitelutions.com )
A dynamic DNS (domain name system) service is allows users connecting to the Internet with a dynamic IP address (an IP address that is changed periodically by the user's Internet Service Provider) to be able to use applications that require a static IP address.

Using a dynamic DNS service works as if there was an old-fashioned telephone message service at your computer's disposal. When a user registers with a DNS service and connects to the Internet with a dynamic IP address, the user's computer contacts the DNS service and lets them know what dynamic IP address it has been assigned from the pool; the service works with the DNS server to forward the correct address to the requesting computer. (Think of calling the message service and saying "Hi. I can be reached at 10.0.45.52 right now. Please tell anyone who tries to reach me to call that number.) Using a dynamic DNS service to arrange for computers to find you even though you are using a dynamic IP address is the next-best thing to having a static IP.

  4. What can I do with dynamic DNS service?
You may host your own web server, email server and FTP server on your home PC. You are able to map a permanent domain name to your server even with a dynamic IP address from your ISP(Internet Service Provider).

  5. Why does it only work with sitelutions?
Because their dynamic DNS service is free.

  6. Is it able to work with my home router?
No problem at all. In fact you can make use of your home router to help detecting your public IP.

  7. I have 2 direct internet connections on my PC, is myDyn able to choose any of them?
Yes. You may use setting "Mask". Let's say you have 2 direct internet conenctions from your ISP, one is ASDL with IP 66.51.100.1 and another is cabel modem with IP 202.136.37.10. If you wish to update your ADSL IP to sitelutions, you can configure your Mask as 66.51.*.*, so any IP address fall within range 66.51.*.* will be choosed.

  8. Why does myDyn update my private IP to sitelutions? My private IP is 165.21.12.1
Technically, you can configure any IP address to your local network card. However, when you connect it to internet, you should not use any public IP address for your network interface.

165.21.12.1 is a public IP, myDyn will detect any available public IP address and update it to your sitelutions account. You should re-configure your private network address to something like 192.168.12.1.

As defined in RFC 1918, following IP ranges are for internal use and are not routed through the internet, you should configure your private IP by using any of them:
    10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
    172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
    192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
